Reflection for December 25

Margaret Devlin, art student at UConn Storrs

As I begin to think about the Christmas season, I can only say that I am more in need than ever for the messages of this great Feast. Our world is often divided, as is our culture, and even our families. We need the feast of Love and goodness and new life.

“Do not be afraid, for behold I proclaim good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”

“A savior is born to us who is Christ the Lord. An infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”

“Glory to God in the highest and peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

You and I are so appreciative of this Feast. Always old and forever new. I hope today, as we gather with our family and friends, we can pause for a moment and remember what we have. Perspective is very important to me. We truly have more than we don’t have.

The gifts we give today are important, but your Presence and mine are also powerful. We are glad to see our friends and family. Our tables are set with the finest decorations and silverware. We enjoy the company of one another.

Central to this Feast is the Eucharist we celebrate. We listen again to God’s word with greater attentiveness.

A Light will shine....

The Earth rejoices....

We are called a Holy People ...

We live in Hope...

Glory to God in the highest

And on Earth peace to those

On whom his favor rests.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
