Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop

In this introductory workshop, you will learn the ancient method and principles of Centering Prayer practice in a quiet, reflective atmosphere. We will cover the history, psychology, and theology of the practice. Two prayer sessions and a question-and-answer session are included.

This program will be offered both in-person and online via Zoom. Information on how to access the program on Zoom will be sent to participants in advance.

Presenter Profiles

Mike Smoolca

Mike Smoolca is a contemplative group and workshop facilitator, and a dedicated teacher and student of contemplative practice and wisdom spirituality. He is a Contemplative Outreach presenter and coordinator for the Christian Contemplative Experience at Holy Family, Contemplative Outreach of CT, and the Northern CT Chapter of the International Thomas Merton Society. Mike is a spiritual director and supervisor as well as a BioSpiritual Focusing companion and teacher.


Noel Terranova

Noel Terranova is a full‑time retreat team member at Holy Family and co‑coordinator of the Christian Contemplative Experience. He introduces Centering Prayer through weekend retreats and is preparing to become a Contemplative Outreach Commissioned Presenter. Noel previously served as editor of FaithND, a rector at Notre Dame, and a university liturgist at Villanova. He holds degrees in theology from Villanova and Notre Dame with advanced specialization in liturgical studies and sacramental theology.
