For the Beauty of the Earth: Sculpture as Prayer; Beauty, the Apophatic and Hope

CCE Contemplative Enrichment Day
Saturday, October 10, 2026
8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (ET)
Fr. Sam Fuller OFM Cap

This event, with its conferences on beauty, the apophatic, and hope, will explore the nature of beauty as a revealed gift, the apophatic as negation leading to presence, and hope as embodying unity and solidarity. The sculptures from his current show at the Monastery Gallery will be integral to his conferences, and the day will include time in the gallery.

This program will be offered both in-person and online via Zoom. Information on how to access the program on Zoom will be sent to participants in advance.

This program will include morning and afternoon sessions of Centering Prayer.

Offering: $75, includes lunch

Scholarships are available, please contact Mike Smoolca at cce@holyfamilyretreat.org for more information.

Presenter Profile

Fr. Samuel Fuller, OFM Cap

Fr. Samuel Fuller, OFM Cap, is a Boston‑based Capuchin Franciscan priest and artist. Drawn to sculpture during a year off from college, he later worked as a welder and boatbuilder before entering the Capuchins in 2000 and being ordained in 2008. His sculpture’s longing for unity echoes his commitments to creation care, immigrant and homeless solidarity, and affirming the gifts of Boston’s Black community. His abstract clay forms arise from encountering the world as “a seedbed of hope, life, and beauty.”
