Tuesday, Feb 27, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Reflect on the holy season while baking a loaf of Challah for your family to enjoy on Easter morning. In Jewish faith, this traditional bread is symbolic of the gifts the Lord provides from the earth. According to custom, two loaves are prepared to represent the double portion of manna that would fall from the heavens on the day before a holiday or the Sabbath. Holy Family Retreat Center, West Hartford - Women’s Evening Retreat:  The Power of Choosing Love, with Scarlett Lewis
Wednesday, Feb 28, 5:30-9 p.m. Scarlett Lewis founded the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement after her son was murdered during the Sandy Hook tragedy in December, 2012. Shortly after his death, Scarlett decided to be part of the solution to the issues that we're seeing in our society—and that also caused the tragedy. She created the Movement and became an advocate for social and emotional learning that teaches children and adults how to manage their emotions, feel connected and have healthy relationships. While we can't always choose what happens to us, we can choose how we respond. Our evening together will explore how to handle adversity, have courageous conversations, and respond with love in the most difficult situations. Her final work, The Interior Castle, is one of the most profound literary works on the contemplative dimension and experiential mysticism. Prayer stood at the center of Teresa’s teachings, and she considered a life of prayer in terms of love. Holy Family Retreat Center, West Hartford - The Path of Transformation: Holy Week Triduum Retreat
Thursday-Saturday, Mar 29-31. Experience the transformation of Christ’s Passion and Resurrection. Led by Holy Family’s retreat team, this retreat for men and women offers solitude and peace to enter deeply into the most sacred days of the Christian year. It includes presentations, time for private reflection, and the opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Silence is optional. It begins with a buffet dinner on Holy Thursday evening and ends on Holy Saturday around noon. Saturday, Apr 14, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. As a mystic, theologian, and spiritual adviser to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Howard Thurman encouraged Dr. King and others to examine their inward journeys and to use nonviolent responses to what was often very violent confrontation. Dr. Thurman chose to engage in sacred activism—work that would serve all people—and to use the contemplative experience as a path to peace, joy, and power. He wrote about this desire in Jesus and the Disinherited, a book that Dr. King carried with him whenever he marched.
