We have watched from afar the amazing mission of Pope Francis to renew the Church in the modern world. Though widely respected and loved, there are now detractors who question the Pope's leadership style and wonder about the future of the Church. Join Fr. Tom Reese, a world-renowned Jesuit scholar and journalist who will present his own observations on this "Pope of the People" and enter into dialogue with Fr. Tom about the possible outcomes for the Church and the world into the future.  The evening includes dinner, presentation and discussion.

Presenter Profile

Fr. Thomas J. Reese, S.J.

Fr. Thomas J. Reese, S.J., is a senior analyst for the Religion News Service. As a journalist and commentator, he has coverd politics, economics, and the Catholic Church.

From 2014 to 2017 he was senior analyst for the National Catholic Reporter. Previously, he was a Fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center from 2006 to 2013 and from 1985 to 1998. He was also editor-in-chief of America magazine from 1998 to 2005 and an associate editor from 1978 to 1985. 

Fr. Reese entered the Jesuits in 1962 and was ordained in 1974. He received a B.A. and an M.A. from St. Louis University, an M.Div. from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

He also is the author of Inside the Vatican: The Politics and Organization of the Catholic Church, A Flock of Shepherds: The National Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Archbishop: Inside the Power Structure of the American Catholic Church
