Credit Card
Holy Family accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Credit card gifts may be made online or over the phone at 860-760-9716.
Securities
Gifts of securities such as stocks and mutual fund shares are a great way to donate to Holy Family. In most cases, you can take a tax deduction for the full market value of the gift.
Most often, securities are transferred electronically to our account. It is extremely important for us to know the identity of the donors of all securities gifts in order to credit these gifts. If these gifts are electronically transferred to our account without telling us first, our broker cannot trace who the donor is. Please instruct your broker to contact the Development Office by email, phone or letter to inform us of the securities being donated.

Gifts of Personal Property (gifts in kind)
The acceptance of gifts in kind is made on a case by case basis. By law Holy Family is prohibited from appraising the value of gifts of personal property in any form. For donations of personal property valued by the donor at $500 and over, the donor must complete the appropriate IRS forms for tax deduction purposes; for property valued at $5,000 or more, the donor must obtain a qualified, independent appraisal. For additional information on gifts in kind, please contact the Development Office at 860-760-9716 or holyfamilydevelopment@cpprov.org.
Real Estate
Gifts of real estate - also accepted on a case by case basis - may include developed or undeveloped property. Real Estate may be given outright or through a bequest, or may be used to fund a charitable trust or other life income plan. (Please remember that if you deed us your home, you can continue to live there.) For additional information on gifts of real estate, please contact the Development Office at 860-760-9716 or holyfamilydevelopment@cpprov.org.
Planned Giving
Visit the Planned Giving page. For information on bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder or lead trusts, life insurance policies and other ways to include Holy Family in your estate plans, please contact the Development Office at 860-760-9716 or holyfamilydevelopment@cpprov.org.
Matching Gifts
You may be able to double, triple or quadruple the value of your gift to Holy Family if you are employed by one of the many companies with matching gift programs. Companies will often match the contributions of spouses and retirees, as well as those of employees. Simply obtain a matching gift form from your company (usually the Human Resources or Community Relations department), fill it out and send it with your contribution. We will take care of the rest. For additional information, please contact the Development Office at 860-760-9716 or holyfamilydevelopment@cpprov.org.
Donor-Advised Funds
A Donor-Advised Fund is a perfect vehicle for donors who want to be involved with their charitable giving, but desire the help of expert partners and managers. Using a Donor-Advised Fund, you can make grants from your fund to nonprofit organizations like Holy Family. For instance, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has staff who can help you choose whom you would like to give a grant to and how to structure your grant. The funds are simple to create. There are no start-up costs. Gifts to the funds are tax deductible at favored public charity rates. Check out the Hartford Foundation’s website for more information ( www.hfpg.org).
United Way
You may designate your United Way contributions to Holy Family; the designation code is AG1768.
IRA Charitable Rollover—Now Available Through December 31, 2011
Congress has once again extended the popular IRA charitable rollover. If you are 70½ and older, you may transfer up to $100,000 free of tax directly from your IRA to a qualified charitable organization such as Holy Family. Example: John, who is 80, has $350,000 in his IRA and wants to give $75,000 to Holy Family. Under this law he can transfer that amount directly to Holy Family from his IRA. Though he cannot claim an income tax deduction for this gift, he will not be taxed on the $75,000 withdrawn and so will suffer no tax consequences by supporting Holy Family with a gift from his IRA. Please contact your IRA custodian for directions on how to initiate the transfer. Please contact Holy Family’s Development Office at 860-760-9716 or holyfamilydevelopment@cpprov.org for any assistance we can provide.

I cannot imagine my life without Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center. I made my first retreat in June 1999. Since then Holy Family has seen me through the most challenging times in my life. After my husband John’s passing in 2002, I worked through my grief by volunteering, both on retreat weekends and with the music ministry. I still volunteer today. Each weekend I look forward to reconnecting with the many retreatants I have come to know and love over the years, and to meeting new and wonderful people. I have learned on a very deep level that when you give... you receive... and the resulting joy cannot be measured.
